Wajima lacquerware pentagonal chopstick
Wajima lacquerware pentagonal chopstick
Wajima lacquerware is said to have originated about 1,000 years ago, and even today, after many years, most of the processes are still the same as the craftsmanship.
Cloth is applied to the carefully selected wooden base (Nuno-kise), undercoating (Honkataji) using Wajima's unique ground powder is layered, and it is polished after more than 100 steps.
Wajima-nuri lacquerware is said to be Japan's best as a practical item with robustness and as a work of art.
This item is made by craftsmen using various types of planes, applying lacquer to the pentagonal chopsticks carved out of the wood base, sprinkling dry lacquer powder (dried lacquer powder), and drying. After that, lacquer is further applied and finished by polishing.
The pentagonal shape fits comfortably in your hand and is easy to hold.
