Wajima lacquerware is said to have originated about 1,000 years ago, and even today, after many years, the entire process remains almost entirely handmade by craftsmen.

The selected wood is covered with a cloth (nunokise), then undercoated with Wajima's original ground powder (hon-kenji), and polished after more than 100 steps.

Wajima-nuri lacquerware is considered to be the best in Japan as a practical product with robustness, as well as an art craft.

The cherry blossoms and autumnal leaves are colorfully depicted by skilled maki-e lacquer craftsmen so that the lacquerware can be used every day, regardless of the season.

You cannot tell the quality of a piece of lacquerware until you have used it for a while. We hope you will try our high-quality, durable Wajima-nuri soup bowls.

Handling Precautions
  • Do not leave it outdoors for a long time or leave it in direct sunlight.
  • Avoid using a dishwasher or dish dryer.
  • Please avoid using a microwave oven because the vessel is made of wood.
  • Avoid polishing lacquerware with detergents containing abrasives or using a scrubbing brush.
  • Lacquer is a relatively heat-resistant material, but high heat can cause discoloration, cracks, and peeling.
  • It will be damaged if it is given a strong impact or if it is dropped from a high place.
  • When washing or storing, please handle them separately from tableware such as glassware.
  • Lacquerware that has just been painted may become discolored if left as it is after drinking alcohol. We recommend washing the same day.
  • After use, wash quickly, wipe dry with a soft cloth, and wipe with a dry cloth.
  • When using detergent, dilute the neutral detergent and use it.
  • For long-term storage, put it in a box after cleaning and store it in a relatively low place.
  • Lacquerware that has been stored for a long time may have spots of mold on it, but it will be cleaned up as soon as you wipe it off.
Points to note when purchasing
  • It takes several months to remove the smell of new lacquerware. The following measures can be considered as emergency measures.

1) Put in rice bran for several days

2) Wash with lukewarm water 2-3 times, then wipe with a soft cloth dipped in diluted vinegar.
